Hello Real World...Meet the Randalls: Our Life Together

Freshman Year

At the end of freshman year when a bunch of us hung out one last time...

Joseph and I met at RUF (Reformed University Fellowship) at college freshman year. We had a small group called freshman fellowship that met on Monday nights in one of the dorms. Throughout freshman year, our whole group became fast friends and hung out together all the time. Little did Joseph and I know that only 2 years later we would be dating!

That Fateful Summer

The summer after sophomore year, I started nursing school and Joseph was taking summer classes for two months. This is when we really started getting to know each other outside of the big group we hung out with. He and three other guys lived in a house that summer, and often the few summer stragglers would show up a few nights a week to hang out and watch 24 (the TV show that sadly went downhill after about the 5th season). I will admit, that though I was not a huge fan of the show, I enjoyed the company (particularly Joseph), so I would join in on the fun.

Everyone pretty much knew that I liked Joseph, but I wasn't sure if he had the same feelings about me. Little did I know, he had been talking to some of his friends about how he wanted to ask me out on a date, but he didn't have the nerve to until the very end of the summer...

The Question

So, it was near the end of exams at the beginning of August, 2009 when it happened. Joseph and I and a few other friends had been studying at the library, when everyone else left. I had walked to the library that morning, and as it was getting dark, Joseph offered to take me home. I agreed, and when he parked the car at my apartment and walked me up the stairs, I knew something was up. As we were ascending, Joseph grabbed my backpack, turned me around, and put his hands on my shoulders. I wasn't sure what was going on, but then he said, "So, here's the deal. When I get back from the beach, I am taking you out on a date." What was my reply, you ask? I said, "Ok." And that was that. We have been inseparable ever since.
